Vision
The CSI Diaconal Ministry is the programme of translating Faith into meaningful expressions of Social Action and Development towards the Biblical Vision of a New Heaven and a New Earth; a new social order where the Kingdom Values of peace, justice, integrity of all creation, harmony, participation and gender sensitivity will prevail.
Mission
Promoting a process of sensitization and capacity building of the Church; and involvement in creative action of affirming the identities and facilitating the empowerment of Dalits, Adivasis, Women, Children, Otherwise Abled, Migrants & Displaced, Coastal poor and Unorganized Sectors through support and counteraction programmes related to Livelihood, Cultural affirmation and Gender issues.
Structure
The Diaconal Ministry has the Directorate at Chennai; and Six Regional Development Offices at Kurnool and Khammam (Andhra Pradesh); Salem and Dindigul (Tamil Nadu); Kottayam (Kerala) and Mysore (Karnataka) covering the 21 National Dioceses of the CSI.
Governance
The Policies and the overall programmes thrust of the Diaconal Ministry are guided by a Board consisting of the Officers of the Synod and Experts in various fields. At the Regions the issues, processes and relevant programme interventions are identified and given expression to by the respective Regional Councils, represented by the Dioceses of the Region.
Strategies
Perspective and capacity building programmes for the Clergy and Laity on issues of Faith and Social Action to enable involvement in Holistic Mission.
- Sensitizing local congregations and communities on social, economic, political, cultural systems and policies which hinder people’s development.
- Supporting sustainable programmes aimed at people’s empowerment to counteract growing consumerism, communalism, marginalization and erosion of human values.
- Alliance building and networking with other Departments of the Synod, Ecumenical bodies, people of other faiths, secular organizations, activists and movements which are committed to the centrality of people.
- Local Fund raising through accessing resources from the Central and State Governments, raising contributions from people, Organizations and Corporate; and sale of publications and materials.
- Promoting ongoing dialogue on articles of Faith and issues of People Centered Development through worship services, newsletters, publications, posters, performing arts, seminars and workshops.
