The Regional Koinonia in Northern Tamil Nadu Region Took Place in Trichy

A fellowship of the members, diocesan Bishops and officers and the Moderator and the officers of the Church of South India (CSI) Synod, named Northern Tamil Nadu Regional Koinonia, took place on 9th February 2018 at the Bishop Heber College, Trichy. Synod members from the Madras Diocese, Vellore diocese, Coimbatore diocese and Trichy-Tanjore diocese participated in the meeting.

The day started with singing by the Bishop Heber college choir. Rev. A. Suresh Kumar, Clerical secretary of Trichy Tanjore diocese. did the opening prayer and Dr. Paul Dayabaran, the lay secretary of the diocese who is also the principal of Bishop Heber college, read the Bible portion. The Moderator, Most Rev. Thomas K. Oommen conducted a devotion based on Nehemiah 2.

The General Secretary of the CSI Synod, Rev. Dr. Rathnakara Sadananda, explained the purpose of the meeting. The synod Treasurer spoke about various crises situation faced by the CSI and called on the member dioceses to be vigilant in handling money and in accounting. He also gave a narrative report of the court cases against us.

Ample time was given to the attending members to ask for clarifications, raise issues and seek advice. Several members appreciated the exercise where the synod members are invited to sit with the officers of the synod and discuss issues related to their dioceses and the synod.

Bishops, Rt. Rev. George Stephen, Rt. Rev. Rajavelu,  Rt.Rev. Timothy Ravinder, and Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Vasantha Kumar spoke about various issues related to the CSI and also general issues facing CSI Christians in Tamilnadu.

The Moderator, in his concluding remarks, answered several questions raised earlier by the members. He also felt that the meeting, first of its kind, was organized well by the host diocese – Trichy-Tanjore.  He said, ‘The overall situation in CSI, its growth and the direction taken by the church is good and we need to build the congreagations rather than the church buildings".

He called one of the lady members to pray – Mrs Anne Kalavathy from Trichy diocese offered the closing prayer and the Moderator pronounced the benediction.

Good lunch was provided by the Bishop Heber college, Trichy.
