The Southern Tamilnadu Regional Koinonia of the Church of South India, hosted by the Madurai- Ramnadu Diocese, was held on 10th February 2018 at the CSI Dental College of Science and Research, Madurai. The Regional Koinonia consisted of the of Synod members of the southern Tamil Nadu region from the Dioceses of Madurai and Ramnad, Thoothukudi and Nazareth, Thirunelveli and Kanyakumari. The meeting was held All the synod members of the southern Tamil Nadu region participated in the fellowship.
The fellowship meeting started with a word of prayer rendered by Rt. Rev. J. J. Christhudoss, Bishop of Thirunelveli Diocese. Then Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Joseph, Bishop of Madurai & Ramnad Diocese and the officers of the diocese extended their warm welcome to the officers of the synod. This was followed by a wonderful session of worship led by a team of students from the CSI Dental College, Madurai.Dr. Mrs. Leela Manohari Joseph, Bishopamma of the Madurai and Ramnad diocese, read the scripture passage of Nehemiah, 2:1-12.
The Most. Rev. Dr. Thomas K. Oommen, the Moderator, of the Church of South India shared the inaugural address and a thought-provoking message about the constructive mind of Nehemiah and his efforts to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and about people like Sanballat and Tobiah who with their destructive minds tried to cease Nehemiah’s efforts. In view of his message, he concluded by saying that likewise there are some destructive minded people who are trying to cease the activities and development of the Church of South India. Hence he then suggested that by this Koinonia fellowship we should all strive together to solve such problems and be united for building the Kingdom of God.
Next, in the programme, special greetings were conveyed by Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Prasada Rao, Deputy Moderator, the C.S.I., Rev. Dr. D. R. Sadananda, The General Secretary, C.S.I. and Adv. C. Robert Bruce, Hon. Treasurer, C.S.I. Rev. Dr. D. R. Sadananda, The General Secretary, C.S.I., shared the importance of solidarity and harmony among the people in CSI for which this Koinonia gathering, at every region, plays a vital role for better implementation. There was also a discussion session on the mission activities and ministries of the Churches in this region.
Short reflections were proposed by Rt. Rev. Devasagayam, The Bishop of Thoothukudi and Nazareth Diocese, Rt. Rev. J. J. Christudoss, The Bishop of Thirunelveli Diocese and Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Joseph, The Bishop of Madurai and Ramnad Diocese.
As a closing note, Adv. Fernandes Rathina Raja, the Lay secretary, Diocese of Madurai and Ramnad thanked the officers of the synod for organising this Regional Koinonia of Synod members from all over the Church of South India and shared the importance of reconciliation process in it. He also suggested not to divide the Dioceses of Tamil Nadu into northern and southern regions but to keep them united as Tamil Nadu region.
The meeting was wound up with a Closing Prayer followed by the Benediction.
