Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. G. T. Abraham, former Bishop in the Diocese of Nandyal of the Church of South India, passed away yesterday evening at Nandyal. The funeral will take place today evening in Nandyal.
Bishop Abraham was ordained in 1967 and served the diocese until 2005. He was consecrated as the bishop in 1994. He was an academician and theological teacher. He had done his post-graduate studies in theology at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, leading to a Master of Theology. Later on, he joined he joined Andhra Christian Theological College as a Professor of Christian Ministry. He had a short stint as a teacher at Samavesam of Telugu Baptist Churches in Secunderabad too.
While attending the Lambeth Conference, 1998, the Virginia Theological Seminary conferred upon Abraham an honorary doctorate at a special academic convocation on 27 July 1998 in Canterbury Cathedral's Crypt in Canterbury, Kent by Bishop Peter James Lee of Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.
Bishop Abraham is survived by his wife Ms. Sathyakumari and children Mr. Dietrich, Mr. Patrick, and Ms. Patricia.
The Officers of the Church of South India, Most Rev. Thomas K. Oommen; the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Prasada Rao; the Deputy Moderator, Rev. Dr. Daniel Rathnakara Sadananda; the General Secretary, and Adv. Robert Bruce; the Treasurer, expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
