When the Most Rev. Thomas K. Oommen, the Moderator of the Church of South India (CSI) - one of the biggest member churches of the World Council of Churches (WCC), attends the World Mission and Evangelism Conference of WCC in Arushi, Tanzania, it is a poetic justice because he is known as a Missionary Moderator of a Church with great missionary zeal. Most Rev. Thomas K. oommen was a missionary in different part of India, both in South and North, and planted new mission fields. He continues his commitment to mission activities and under his leadership the Church catalyses the mission commitment. The Moderator will be meeting various church leaders from across the world in the side events of the Mission Conference.
Ms. Gladious Ranjini, a youngster from the Madras Diocese of the CSI, also attends the Mission Conference.
The conference has been organised under the theme from 8th to 13 March by the WCC Mission and Evangelism (CWME). This conference is held every decade and draws together churches from every denomination to share knowledge and engage in interfaith, secular and ecumenical dialogue. Held in Tanzania, the conference will particularly look at the challenges and seeds of opportunities for Africa today. How can Africa shape mission theology and future practice and how can Africa enhance the understanding of mission in a unique and innovative way, are questions raised.
