Canon David Porter; the Chief of Staff of Lambeth Palace, Rev. Dr. William Adam; the Ecumenical Adviser of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Ms. Everarda Slabbekoorn, the Secretary to the Archbishop made a recce visit to the Diocese of Madhya Kerala of the Church of South India (CSI) on the 25th to 27th January 2019 prior to the proposed pastoral visit of Most Rev Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury to the CSI in September 2019.
The team had a meeting with Most Rev. Thomas K. Oommen, the Moderator of the CSI, Rev. Thomas Paikadu; the Treasurer of the Madhya Kerala Diocese (MKD), Rev. John Isaac; Clergy Secretary, MKD, Dr. Simon John; Lay Secretary, MKD, Mr. Jacob Philip, Registrar, MKD, Dr. Susan Thomas; President, CSI Women's Fellowship, and Rev. Jibin Thampi; Bishop's Chaplain, MKD at the Bishop's House in Kottayam on the 26th January. The team took part in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new chapel, which is part of the Bishop's house.
On the third day of the visit, the team attended the Sunday Worship Service at the CSI Cathedral at Kottayam. Rev. Dr. William Adam delivered the sermon on the theme 'United in Love' and celebrated the Eucharist. They have attended the Madhya Kerala Diocesan Day celebration in the afternoon in which Canon David Porter shared greetings. In the evening they attended the final meeting of the diocesan convention and Rev. Dr. William Adam spoke to the gathering on behalf of the team from Lambeth.
The team also visited Marthoma Metropolitan and had a meeting with the National President of YMCA at Kottayam. Rev. Sunil Raj Philip, the Director of the Communication Department of the CSI Synod accompanied the team in Kerala.
