Indo-Korean Mission Council 2019 at CSI Synod Centre

Three days Indo- Korean Mission Council took place at CSI Synod Secretariat, Chennai, from 20th to 22nd August 2019, hosted by the Church of South India. The participants were from six churches in Asia and one mission organisation in Germany. Leadership from the Presbyterian Church in Korea (PCK), Presbyterian Church in Republic of Korea (PROK), Church of South India (CSI), Church of North India (CNI), Presbyterian Church in India (PCI) and Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), Germany, had participated in the mission council. The Moderator of CSI the Most. Rev. Thomas K Oommen, Deputy Moderator the Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Prasada Rao, CSI General Secretary Rev. Dr. D. Ratnakara Sadananda, CSI Honorary Treasurer Adv. C. Robert Bruce and CSI Women’s Fellowship President Mrs. Dr. Susan Thomas along with CSI Synod Directors participated in the mission council. All the delegates were warmly welcomed by the CSI leadership by giving a shawl and a memento. Respective Church heads or representatives greeted the council wishing it success. Mr. Cha Ju Wook, Deputy Moderator of PCK greeted the council. The mission council started on 20th morning with worship service led by Rev. Solomon Paul, Director for CSI Youth Department and ministry of the word by Rev. Sunil Raj Philip, Director for CSI Communications and Dalit & Adivasi Departments. There was a total of six presentations followed by discussions in the council. The keynote address was delivered by the CSI General Secretary Rev. Dr. D. R. Sadananda. He explained that the mission council in cession was fourth one in the series. The purpose of starting Indo-Korean Mission Council was with a vision to form regional council, a global South – South partnership, to equip the Asian Churches to face Asian realities in solidarity; metaphorically a journey towards Galilee, says Dr. Sadananda. The PCK General Secretary Rev. Chang -bae Byun had affirmed the need to head towards forming regional council which ought to be sharpened by social awareness, solidarity with the marginalised, reshape traditional understanding of unity and harmony and raise future leadership of transformative ecumenism. The Rev. Dr. Sungkook Park, Executive Secretary, Partnership and Ecumenical Relationships office for PROK, had reflected upon the Asian realities calling the Churches to engage critically with the Asian realities. Rev. Solomon Benjamin, EMS Liaison Secretary for East Asia/ India, presented initiatives in forming South – South fellowship and also regional councils by the EMS. The CNI General Secretary Mr. Alwin Masih presented ministries of CNI high lighting overwhelming ministerial challenges in India. The Senior Administrative Secretary of PCI Rev. Lyttan had presented a Historical note about the PCI and its administrative structure that facilitates the ministries. Second day worship service was led by Rev. Maxcin John, Director for the CSI Department of Mission and Evangelism and ministry of the word was done by Rev. James Cecil Victor, Director for the CSI Department of Pastoral Concerns. The mission council meeting was concluded with vote of thanks by the CSI General Secretary, prayer by the CSI Deputy Moderator and benediction by the CSI Moderator. The Indo-Korean Mission Council had stimulated serious thinking to consolidate the vision of forming regional council and strengthen South – South Fellowship. The delegates left for field visitation on the last day of the council. The mission council was co-ordinated by Rev. Dr. Praveen P.S. Perumalla, CSI-EMS Liaison Officer, Chennai.
