‘Hearing God’s Cry’: The Consultation on Mission Priorities of CSI for 2020- 2030 Begins in Chennai

The Consultation on Mission Priorities of the Church of South India (CSI) for 2020- 2030; “Hearing God’s Cry”, gets underway at the CSI Synod Centre in Chennai. This two- day conference, which will initiate a thorough SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) Analysis was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Vadapally Prasada Rao, the Deputy Moderator of the CSI. He led the inaugural worship in which Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel S. Thiagaraja, the Bishop in Jaffna led the devotion. “The cries of the people are God’s Cries and the onus is upon the church to hear the cries”, Bishop Thiagaraja reminded the gathering of the Bishops, the Treasurers, Lay Secretaries, and the Clergy Secretaries of all the 24 Dioceses of the CSI who are taking part in the consultation.   

Rev. Dr. Daniel Rathnakara Sadananda, the General Secretary of the CSI, presented the guideline for the SWOT analysis and invited the participants of the consultation to raise the questions, doubts and challenges without any reservation, which will strengthen the process of the analysis.

The delegates divided into discussion groups to deliberate on the mission priorities for the coming decade in the forenoon after the introduction of the process of analysis by the General Secretary.

In the afternoon, Mr. Prince Gajendra Babu presented a paper on ‘Empowering the Margin towards Koinonia of Love, Equality, and Justice. Rt. Rev. Jayaraj George Stephen, the Bishop in Madras Diocese and the Chairperson of the Dalit & Adivasi Concerns Department of the CSI Synod, moderated the session. Dr. CA M. Kandasami led a session on ‘Towards Transparency, Accountability and Responsibility.
