Gudalur faces Severe Floods and Landslide; More than 500 Tribal Houses hit; Relief Operations began by the CSI Coimbatore

Gudalur block of the Nilgiris devastated by the recent South-West monsoon, many lives and more than 500 households were washed away by the unprecedented rain.

By the instruction and guidance of Rt. Rev. Timothy Ravinder, the Bishop in the Coimbatore Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI) immediate steps were taken by the office bearers of CSI Coimbatore Diocese. 

The Nilgiris Area Chairperson Rev. Sudhakar, local pastors along with Director, Department of Ecological Concerns Rev. Bartholomew Segan Palk, Asst. Liaison officer Mr Jeba Kumar and Mr Anbu Arasu, Social worker are leading the tireless efforts of rehabilitation. Many Churches came forward and extended their hands in the rescue operations and rehabilitation. Camps are opened and the rehabilitation team make sure that the basic amenities are provided. The team works hand in hand with the Village administrative officers, Mathanakumar- Thorapalli, Mohan Raj-Puthurvayal, Noorjahan- Kuchi Muchi, Parvathy- Second Mile and Senior Revenue Inspector Uma- Athipally for their co-operation in helping us to reach out to the people who are at the Government shelter home.

The officers of the Synod request prayerful support to the people, especially for the Tribals- the vulnerable communities- who are affected the worst.
