Rt. Rev. Dr Vadapalli Prasada Rao, the Former Deputy Moderator of CSI and the Bishop in Dornakal Diocese, Passes Away
We are shocked and extremely saddened to inform you of the sudden demise of The Rt. Rev. Dr Vadapalli Prasada Rao, the former Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India (CSI) and the present Bishop in Dornakal Diocese. The Bishop was called to the eternal glory at 03:30 a.m. at Khammam today (7th September 2020) due to cardiac arrest.
He served the Diocese as a Deacon, Presbyter for more than 30 years and as the Bishop for Eight years. He was born at Kistaram and Consecrated as the 8th Bishop of Dornakal on 12th June 2012. He was elected as the Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India in January 2017 and served in the position till January 2020. His demise was at the age of 66 years when there was one more year to go as the Bishop in the Diocese.
After schooling in Kistaram and intercollegiate studies in Sathupalli, Bishop Prasada Rao finished Bachelor of Science degree at Ramavaram. When finished degree course, he worked at the Singareni Collieries Company. But later on, he relinquished this job and decided to become a priest. He joined the Andhra Christian Theological College, Hyderabad in 1979 for his theological studies. He served almost thirty years as a presbyter, mainly in the rural parishes and worked for the upliftment of the downtrodden people.
Bishop was a prolific writer and musician. His songs in Telugu are very popular, rooted in biblical insights and related to the lives of common people. He was a bishop with a missional vision. During his tenure as the Deputy Moderator, he hosted one of the major Mission Conferences by the Mission and Evangelism Department of the CSI Synod at Dornakal.
Bishop is survived by his wife Rev. V. Sunanda Prasada Rao, daughters Mrs Sudeepa, Mrs Kavitharchana, Mrs Hepsi Sowjanya, Mrs Sangeetha Soundarya, and son Mr Vadapalli Ajay Chanakya.
The officers of the CSI Synod told that the demise of the Bishop is shocking news and the Church has lost an eminent leader. Most Rev. Dharmaraj Rasalam; the Moderator of CSI, Rt. Rev. Dr Reuben Mark; the Deputy Moderator, Adv. Fernandas Rathina Raja; the General Secretary, and Prof. Dr Vimal Sukumar; the Treasurer, expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved family.
